Description

As a Laboratory Technician for Construction Testing Services (CTS) and ESS Laboratory at The RISE Group, Inc., you will perform light to moderate labor-intensive laboratory duties and testing under the direction of the Lab supervisor. Minimal analysis of data required. This position will report to the Worcester, MA Office. Your training will be hosted in our Cranston, RI office for 4-6 weeks, and you will be eligible for a Mileage reimbursement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate the Worcester Division of ESS Laboratory.
  • Run requested analysis on samples submitted to the laboratory.
  • Document results for analysis on bench sheets.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks including but not limited to: media preparation, wash glassware and maintain retained samples.
  • Assist with maintaining certifications of the laboratory with RI and MA certification boards.
  • Research and develop new methods of analysis to improve the capabilities of the laboratory.
  • Assist with training new staff in new methodologies.
  • Maintain Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program for BAL's Worcester Laboratory
  • Maintain stock and other consumables in the laboratory.
  • Work with staff of CTS, and other departments in ESS Laboratories to increase productivity of laboratory and company.
  • Revise Standard Operating Procedures as requested.
  • Offer Support Services for other divisions of the Rise Group.
  • Perform routine lab index testing of soils, concrete and asphalt to determine compliance with project specifications independently.
  • Perform testing using specialized equipment designed to collect data from the various construction materials.
  • Compile paperwork into reports for review by supervisor(s).
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

This job operates in both a laboratory setting as well as a professional office environment. Position will entail frequent exposure to dusty environments as well as occasional exposure to outside work and sedentary work.

Physical Demands:

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time 40-hour position. Days and hours of work vary but are most commonly Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. May be requested to work overtime as determined by the needs of the department. May have to work weekends (Saturday).

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field or 2 years of professional experience preferred. Willing to train applicants.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of database programs, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work with chemicals and solvents that may emit unpleasant odors and unappealing test samples.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work effectively with high volumes, and meet short deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and clean record; driving company vehicle(s) is/are required
