Summary
University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis is currently seeking an assistant athletic trainer to help develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sport medicine program for the University intercollegiate sports. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will help with the prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and documentation of injuries and illnesses. In addition, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will help the Head Athletic Trainer perform and administer sports medicine services essential for the successful implementation and development of the intercollegiate sports program.

The participate in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports as a member of the . Teams include men's and women's, basketball, bowling, golf, soccer, cross-country, track and field, volleyball, co-ed competitive cheer, men's baseball and rugby, and women's softball and lacrosse.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:
  • Administer and oversee the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and documentation of injuries to University student-athletes
  • Responsible for practice, home events, and care and management of injuries/illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, rehabilitation and documentation of student-athletes as deemed by the Head Athletic Trainer per risk level of the sport and availability of the athletic training staff
  • Help monitor weather conditions and dangerous environments (cold/humidity/lightning/tornado)
  • Collaborate with coaches on student-athlete strength and conditioning programs and activities
  • Communicate with head athletic trainer, physician, and coaches on student-athlete injury status and be able to effectively communicate in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families
  • Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student-athletes with restrictions or limitations
  • Organize and maintain all student-athlete medical records in a timely manner in compliance with federal, state, local, athletic association, and conference governing body's requirements
  • Make return to play decisions for student-athletes with advice from physician if needed
  • Assist visiting athletic teams with medical accommodations and services as needed
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NAIA and conferences should be maintained, reviewed, and practiced ensuring compliance relative to those applicable duties
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with supervising the conduct of student-athletes in the Athletic Training Facility and reports any problems to respective coach
  • Responsible for organization and appearance of the Athletic Training Facility
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the annual budget/inventory of all supplies needed to carry out athletic training duties
  • Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Represent the university in a positive manner both on and off duty


Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; master's degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of professional experience, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Certification by NATA Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Licensure by the State of Missouri Board of Registration for Healing Arts
  • Certified in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & Health Care Providers or Basic Life Support
  • Outstanding organizational and prioritization skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • People oriented and able to work with various personalities
  • Protects privacy of individual student-athletes and medical information
  • The ability to represent the philosophy and educational goals of University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as the schedule dictates
  • Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations is preferred
