Job Summary

As a Principal Engineer I at Nidec ACIM, you will play an important role in designing electronic hardware and embedded software for our high efficiency motor control programs. With responsibilities spanning from initial concept development through design and into production, you will collaborate with a team of engineers to create products that meet our customers' stringent requirements for efficiency, cost, and reliability.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the design / development of new motor control products.
  • Support sales / application teams with technical knowledge regarding existing motor control products.
  • Direct testing and verification of both PC based software tools and embedded micro-controller software.
  • Assist in testing / troubleshooting PC based software tools and applications used for internal engineering group testing, as well as external customers.
  • Develop PC programs for internal test / data collection automation.
  • Work with the hardware design group to design circuits to interface embedded systems with real world signals.
  • Document design / testing work and conduct reviews of those documents with the embedded software group.
  • Assemble motors and controls with load testing equipment to perform tests and measurements for verifying proper expected operation of products.
  • Troubleshoot and debug abnormal operations or processes using a combination of software development tools as well as lab testing equipment such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience in design engineering, with a focus on product development and electric motors.
  • Familiarity with motor control theory.
  • Familiarity with Matlab / Simulink design and simulation environment.
  • Knowledge of electronics and electrical circuits associated with variable speed electric motor control.
  • Experience with embedded software coding / control.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new ideas and work in teams.
  • Must be able to obtain a passport and travel internationally when needed.

Working Requirements:

  • 40 Hours Full-Time, at least 3 of the days of the week are required on site.
