Job Summary

The sky is no longer the limit as Nidec takes its technology off the ground and into the Aerospace market. As an Electric Propulsion Systems and Maturity Engineer with the Nidec Aerospace team, you will have the opportunity to apply and develop your expertise to support the development and production of propulsion systems for the battery-powered aircrafts that will enable the world to sustainably and efficiently get from point A to point B.

Job Description

The Electric Propulsion Systems and Maturity Engineer is responsible for developing electric propulsion systems for aerospace applications, from the system specification and conceptual design to detailed design, prototyping, integration, qualification, and certification.

In this position, the candidate will work in a collaborative cross-functional environment for the development of an Electric Engine.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Capture of systems requirements from customer specification
  • Requirements review with the customer
  • Capture of certification requirements
  • Validation of system requirements
  • Definition of system architecture
  • Definition of system electrical and data interfaces
  • Analysis of system safety and reliability
  • Flow down of system requirements to equipment requirements
  • Interaction with equipment-level engineers to define the equipment attributes.
  • Interaction with safety engineer to support safety assessment.
  • Review of equipment design for compliance with system objectives
  • Elaboration of qualification and maturity plans
  • Test setup specification
  • Elaboration of test procedures for functional and performance qualification
  • Elaboration of test procedures for environmental and electromagnetic qualification
  • Qualification tests execution
  • Elaboration of test results and problem reports
  • System troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Verification of system and certification requirements
  • Elaboration of reports
  • Elaboration of HALT, HASS, ESS procedures
  • Elaboration of Endurance procedures
  • Elaboration of Health Monitoring Strategies

Technical Attributes and Experience

  • Experience in new product development and phase-gate processes
  • Experience in the development of electromechanical propulsion systems or electromechanical actuation systems
  • Experience in the development of high-voltage motor control equipment
  • Experience in requirements-based development, requirements management, and V&V process
  • Experience with airworthiness certification requirements
  • Experience with safety assessment, FMEA, and FTA
  • Experience with reliability growth, product maturity, and product readiness
  • Experience with ESS, HALT, HASS
  • Experience with Endurance tests
  • Experience with PHM
  • Experience with ARP 4754A and with DO-160
  • Experience with IBM DOORS or JAMA
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink

Preferred:

  • Experience with power electronics and motor control
  • Experience with safety assessment and reliability prediction

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (proficiency levels aligned to job level)

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field
  • 7 years of experience in motor control/modeling
